The Return of WWL Radio to the Roosevelt Hotel

The Return of WWL Radio to the Roosevelt Hotel

Celebrating our 125th Anniversary, The Roosevelt New Orleans is rekindling a relationship that started over 80 years ago with the return of WWL Radio to live broadcasting from inside the hotel. In fact, in 1932 WWL moved its studios from Loyola University to The Roosevelt Hotel, where the station broadcast popular news and entertainment programs during the day, namely “The Dawnbusters,” which aired for 25 years. Supper clubs in The Blue Room were regularly broadcast across the country for avid fans, and abroad for soldiers looking to get a taste of life back home. A goal of the 125th Anniversary celebration is to respect the Roosevelt’s historic past while looking forward to its bright future.

Now, The Roosevelt is excited to announce a 125th Anniversary partnership with WWL and renowned New Orleans food critic Tom Fitzmorris.

This new partnership will involve Fitzmorris recording his show, The Food Show with Tom Fitzmorris, live from The Roosevelt once a month, beginning with a launch Eat Club in the Blue Room on Wednesday, November 28th. The Eat Club will feature a four course dinner, music from The George French Trio, and plenty of commentary from New Orleans’ most famous foodie.

Fitzmorris is a New Orleans food critic, author, and radio host, who has been a staple of the New Orleans food scene since the 1970s. The WWL Radio host will bring his trademark food tips, and stories from the past to the Roosevelt, while broadcasting live in front of hotel guests and visitors. While details are still being worked out, you can expect to see Fitzmorris broadcasting live from the many establishments inside the hotel, including the Fountain Lounge, Sazerac Bar, Teddy’s Café, Waldorf Astoria Spa, and the rooftop pool. You can listen to Fitzmorris from 3pm-7pm Monday-Friday on 105.3FM &, as well as Saturdays from 12pm-3pm and Sundays from 1pm-4pm.

The partnership comes at a time when the hotel is preparing for its popular annual holiday lobby lighting display. The lobby display features 44 Birch trees, more than 22,000 twinkling lights, and scores of festively dressed Christmas trees.
